Camp Walanga Muru
Walanga Muru honours each young person’s unique journey—one shaped by their own strengths, challenges, identity, and values. This camp empowers teens to discover and confidently walk their own path, rather than being forced into a neurotypical mould.
This camp offers a rare space where neurodivergent teens are the majority—free from judgment, social pressure, and the need to mask. Teens will meet others who understand the world in similar ways and have opportunities to form authentic, lasting friendships in a community that celebrates difference.
Walanga Muru weaves in nature-based occupational therapy, using the outdoor environment as a therapeutic space to support regulation, build resilience, and promote meaningful engagement through connection with the natural world.

The P-E-O Framework
Our program is grounded in the Person–Environment–Occupation (PEO) model of occupational therapy. This approach recognises that a person’s wellbeing and participation in life are shaped by the interaction between:
The Person: their sensory profile, communication style, neurotype, self-awareness, and individual goals;
The Environment: physical surroundings, social expectations, cultural safety, and sensory demands;
The Occupation: the meaningful tasks and roles they take on—like self-care, food preparation, and group activities.
At camp, we adjust the environment and scaffold tasks so teens can meaningfully engage and succeed as themselves, not by masking or conforming. We believe growth happens best when teens feel safe, seen, and supported in a way that truly fits them.
